Are you an emoji addict?
I’d never seen emoticons or emoji ✈️ 📱 😉 used for anything except to support, enhance or convey an emotion (or just be silly). Then I got a flyer from Pizza makers Dominos.
Buy your next pizza with an emoji
Dominos are giving their customers a discount when they buy a pizza via text message.
It goes like this:
1. Text the pizza emoticon to 0448 366 466
2. Dominos confirms order with reply text message saying they will “make your most recent order”.
3. Hungry Pizza lover replies YES to confirm
4. You get 30% off your pizza when you buy via text message.
Innovative mobile marketing
I didn’t know you could use emoji as a valid request or response – to be honest it had never even occurred to me. But of course it makes sense. If you can reply YES or ACTION to an SMS/ text question, why wouldn’t an emoticon response be just as valid.
And when it’s a picture of what you’re buying, I bet it cements the buyers intent – which for organizations who suffer shoppers who get buyers remorse, could save them in returns etc.
Or it could be a gimmick that attracts the wrong (young) audience whose parents then call up saying they don’t want to pay for said pizza or other item as their child has got a bit emoji-happy and
bought several dozen products.
You can donate with Emoji too
The list will expand shortly.
Emoticons for mobile marketing
I love this use of emoticons in mobile marketing/ mCommerce.
It’s innovative and by the heavy discount Dominos are offering customers, if say it’s a very cheap way to operate and if it takes off (order via text message) it could be a big cost saver for businesses.
Have you bought anything via text?
